Sarah is an experienced specialist orthodontist having worked in New York, London, Hertfordshire and Wales since qualifying as a specialist orthodontist in 1996. Before specialising she spent some of her career in maxillofacial and oral surgery, periodontics, oral medicine and pathology and has taught and supervised dental students at Bristol University Dental Hospital.
She particularly feels at home treating nervous adults and as a mother of two teenage daughters is well placed to treat younger patients too. Her skill set includes years of experience with ‘Invisalign’ as well as other cosmetic types of ‘invisible’ braces such as ‘Clarity’ ceramic fixed appliances. Other areas she enjoys working with are multi-specialty cases (requiring careful liaison between several specialties) and functional appliances. She has experience using ‘Incognito’ and ‘Forestadent 2D’ lingual appliances. She is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, The British Orthodontic Society and regularly attends conferences and courses to update her knowledge most recently the World Orthodontic Conference in London September 2015.
As an undergraduate and postgraduate student Sarah won several academic prizes including the Frank Stammers Prize in Periodontology, British Dental Association Prize in General Practice, University Training Grades Prize for thesis presentation and the WB Houston Award for her MSc thesis. She carried out research into the effects for patients who were born with dental and facial deformity such as cleft lip and palate from which she has co-written published papers. Sarah has taken part in the voluntary scheme ‘Raleigh International’ assisting the ‘World Health Organisation’ vaccination programme and dental health programme in Guyana, South America.
